Interleaved Routing

Characteristics

  • several activities are defined as a set of activities
  • each activity in the set must be executed once
  • the set of activities has NO partial ordering
  • the order of execution is not known at design time and arbitrary, the order is decided at run-time
  • used to relax the sequencing requirement for activities within a process
  • the order of execution could not predicted in advance
  • no two activites can be executed at the same time

BPMN

  • partly supported for simple tasks via a Parallel Box subprocess
    • child activities are enabled to start in parallel (i.e. executed at the same time)
    • all child activities mus be completed

    • child activities are enabled to start in parallel (i.e. executed at the same time)
    • not all child activities must be performed
